MYFAROG (Mythic Fantasy Role-playing Game) (second edition) is a fantasy role-playing game, with a setting based on European mythology, religion and fairy tales. The rules are very modular, meaning you can play the game rules light or rules heavy, as you please. The rules are designed to make sense, and to give the players the ability to immerse themselves in Thulê; a highly credible fantasy world similar to the European Classical Antiquity (some places touching into the Viking Age or the Bronze Age), but yet different. In Thulê, sorcery and the ancient deities are real, and the world is inhabited by not only humans, but also elves, nymphs, dwarves, ettins and trolls, as well as other creatures. This art-minimalistic 161 page core rule-book (with black-and-white interior) is an all-in-one rule-book, so it contains all the information you need to play the game (and to make your own adventures and campaigns) indefinitely. A digital high resolution map of Thulê can be found here: www.myfarog.org. Because the setting is based on real world locations (Lofoten and Vesteralen in Northern Norway) you can also use online map services, to get highly detailed and realistic maps of the world of Thulê, in any scale you want. NB! You need a set of polyhedral dice to play the game.

MYFAROG is a wonderful addition to any roleplaying fans bookshelf. This is a single system book meaning it is comprised of everything you'll need to sit down and play, any additional aids are optional. Crack MyFAROG open and you'll find a well organized table of contents and be wisked away to Thule a land of danger, fantasy, and fierce foes. Character creation is simple and the rules give you enough flexibility to game with anyone from the age of 8 to 108. MYFAROG isn't overly long and lacks the art fluff that would in the end just make it much more expensive to get via print on demand. Thule is a world like our own but also very different, fans of fantasy will fell right at home.Lastly it must be mentioned the writer is of some notoriety and has many accusations flung at him, the same could be said of many writers (H. P Lovecraft, Oscar Wilde, Ayn Rand, Lewis Caroll). This is a riew of MYFAROG not Mr. Vikernes. If you want a wonderful role playing game that introduce some new concepts and has elements of all the things that attract us to role playing games this book is perfect for you.
This is an excellent system that can be played rules light but also has enough inside for those who want something crunchy. The layout is easy to read, and Varg has some really great insight into his world of Thule as well as the ancient European world from which it is derived. I highly recommend picking this up if you want something a little different than your average "3E" style game without going *too* far away from what makes those games fun. Jive?tl;dr: MYFAROG is fun, quite original, and quick to learn
All the controversy and crybaby reviewers finally influenced me to check this out; I'm glad I did. Please note this review is written after a few cursory readings of the book and only one actual adventure played. Is this the best RPG I've ever owned/played? No, but it's certainly not the worst. My only real "complaints" are that it seems a little scattered in places and there is no index, so you'll need to make your own. Also, English is not Varg's first language, which leads to a couple of items not being completely clear on first (again cursory) reading. This isn't enough of an issue to dock the rules a star; intent is easy enough to decipher. If you're looking for Viking gaming you'll be disappointed. This setting predates the Viking era, so no characters from the History Channel series. Sorry. It's also not a treasure/magic item heavy game. If that's what you're interested in, you should probably stick with WoW and its tabletop equivalents. There actually is a friendly and well supported MYFAROG community on FB and YT, and any questions you may have about rules will be answered and clarified. To those complaining and leaving one star reviews about a rule system they've likely never even read, the MYFAROG community is in reality probably more diverse than your gaming group. If you weren't around for the D&D "Satanic Panic" in the 1980s and you're condemning this game for being something it's not, congratulations. You're just as bad as the ignorant and paranoid people that spoke out against D&D back then. If you were around for the "Satanic Panic" years and condemn this game for something it's not, then shame on you. You've become one of "them."Give the game a try. This is actually an enjoyable game if you go into it with an open mind.
I am so glad I purchased these rules. The world of Thule is very well developed, and the rules are very nice. I am a big fan of classic roleplaying. These rules definitely have a classic feel to them, and they have are a nice departure from that high-medieval to renaissance era that most systems are situated in. If you enjoy roleplaying with friends and family, I highly recommend these rules. I noticed a few reviews from people who probably did not actually purchase the system, and are trolling. I humbly ask you to ignore those reviews. Mr. Vikernes has done a very nice job on this RPG, and I will happily purchase any of his future works.
Very interesting European pagan style game. I like the lore surrounding it very much. Only problem I had is I received version 2.6 unlike the picture 2.7. I couldn't find anywhere what is the difference so I don't think I will bother returning it but that is a minor issue.
This game is pretty good. Ignore the dumb things other people are saying about racism. I didn’t see anything racist at all. Is it sexist? Only if by sexist you mean that male and female characters have different bonuses. If you like the dark ages or Vikings and what not, give it a go and ignore all the 21st Century hypersensitivity and being offended by literally everything. You’d think this book was written by Nazis to hear some people tell it, I never got that impression at all.
This is a fascinating venture into the past for anyone that is interested in the ancient lore of pre-Christian northern Europe. The author of this game thoroughly incorporates the indigenous language and culture of the Germanic and Scandinavian tribes into a well thought out and interesting take on the modern day RPG. I originally purchased this book as an addition for our family's "weekends without lights" where we gather around the table for games and story telling. I was pleasantly surprised that not only is this a great game, the book has also sparked discussion around the historical content and world view of our pre-Christian ancestors.I would highly recommend this RPG for anyone that is interested in a lively and educational exploration into the days of yore. A beautiful cover and inner illustrations make this RPG an asset for anyone that appreciates indigenous European heritage.Well done!
